Vans is set to release the classic 106 Vulcanized in a few new colors and materials for Spring 2011, and we’ve got a preview. The new 106 sees a few variations: the upper is primarily perforated suede, with a solid suede toe and tongue construction, completed by a leather heel tab. Two design aspects immediately stand out: first, Vans is adding a square leather lace for the 2011 106, proving that that boat shoes and Stefan Janoski are still a movement. And second, is that the several of the 106 offerings are strongly reminiscent of the A.P.C. Chukkas that Vans and the French clothier just released. However, neither of those design influences are negatives; the Spring 2011 106 is still a classic, just kept relevant with some interesting updates.
